Why remove EXIF data from photos?

Photos can contain GPS coordinates, capture dates, author names and camera details. Before sharing publicly, inspect the stored fields and choose a removal scope for your audience.

  • Share photos from home or school: remove GPS metadata to reduce direct exposure of precise coordinates, and review the image and other location fields.
  • Post marketplace or forum photos: remove EXIF data when capture times, author names and camera details are unnecessary for the public copy.
  • Prepare a public preview: clean metadata from the sharing copy and retain an archive with capture details and credits. Decide whether copyright details should stay before removal.
EXIF-only removal strips the standard JPEG EXIF block; XMP and IPTC may remain. All-metadata removal strips JPEG EXIF, XMP, IPTC and comments while retaining compressed image data and APP0/APP2, including ICC. This is the tool’s defined cleanup scope, not a forensic anonymity guarantee.

Batch removal steps

  1. Import photos and review GPS, author and camera data.
  2. Open Batch remove and select photos.
  3. Choose all metadata, EXIF only or GPS only.
  4. Download cleaned copies or an image ZIP. Originals stay intact.

Not necessarily. GPS-only removal clears EXIF GPS fields. XMP, IPTC, filenames or visible image content may still reveal a location. Review all metadata, filenames and image content before sharing sensitive photos.

How can I check EXIF data removal?

After downloading a cleaned copy, import that copy into the viewer and check the fields covered by your chosen scope. EXIF-only removal leaves other XMP/IPTC data; GPS-only removal leaves other location clues. A JSON report is not a cleaned photo.

JPEG EXIF edits and JPEG metadata-block cleanup do not recompress image data. Canvas conversion of other formats to PNG may change file size, color, HDR or decoding results. Keep originals and inspect exported copies.

Viewing and editing are free. Downloading cleaned photos or a ZIP requires sign-in and one-time or subscription download access.
